How diet and nutrition vary

The terms “diet” and “nutrition” have different definitions, but they obviously linked. “Diet” refers to someone’s actual daily food and liquid intake while “nutrition pertains to the science of dealing with food and nourishment. Sometimes, many people get confused with the meanings of the two because they think that a less nutritious diet plan will not affect their health’s overall condition. Nutrition deals with the necessity of vitamins and minerals in a person’s body. Being aware of and implementing the latest important issues in nutrition can lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Before you make changes to your eating habits, learn the most common diet and nutrition problems in order to prevent them.  As with everything else, knowledge is power.

Here are people’s most common diet problems:

1.Don’t assume that food choices are better for you than they actually are. Many experts believe that people who are very particular about diet and nutrition are more likely to believe that their food choices are healthier than they really are. It is always a good idea to eat whole, fresh, and unprocessed foods whenever possible.  Don’t pretend that because you had a “good” lunch, its time for an all-out dinner extravaganza.

2. Be aware of your portion sizes. If you are careful about the amount you can eat almost anything. One of the most common mistakes is that they overestimate or misjudge the amount of food they need.

3. Don’t have issues with carbohydrates. When diet people talk about “bad carbs” they mean things like white flour, sugar and processed white rice. Good carbs would are foods like fresh fruits, vegetables and  wholegrain rice. It is always better for you to avoid bad carbs but not necessarily the good ones.

4. Eat 4-5 small meals a day instead of 1-2 larger ones. Overeating and eating only 1-2 times day may put an individual’s health at risk because it disrupts blood sugar. It is better to keep your metabolism revved up with 4-5 small meals a day instead of 1-2 very large ones. Your body is a very finely tuned machine that decides famine is here and should conserve energy if too much time passes between meals.Eat something every 2-3 hours and don’t get too hungry before eating the next meal.
